Paste, upload, or load JSON from a URL. Validate instantly, beautify or minify with indent options, compare two payloads, then copy or download — all in your browser.
Important: Everything runs in your browser. Your JSON is not uploaded to format or validate — only optional URL fetch leaves your machine.

03 steps
Drop JSON into the editor, upload a .json file, load a sample, or fetch from a public HTTPS URL.
Check for syntax errors with line/column hints, beautify with 2/4 spaces or tabs, minify, or sort keys.
Copy the output, download a .json file, or open Compare mode to check two JSON payloads side by side.
JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a lightweight text format for storing and exchanging data. APIs, config files, schema markup, and many CMS exports use JSON because it is readable by humans and easy for machines to parse.
JSON supports objects, arrays, strings, numbers, booleans, and null. Unlike JavaScript source code, JSON keys must be double-quoted strings, and trailing commas are not allowed.
A free JSON formatter & validator helps you read messy payloads, catch syntax mistakes early, and prepare clean data for APIs, SEO schema, or config files.
Minified JSON from APIs is hard to read. Beautifying with consistent indentation makes nested structures obvious so you can debug faster.
Validation catches missing commas, unquoted keys, and stray characters before they break production code or schema markup.
Paste JSON into the left editor, upload a file, load the sample, or fetch from a public URL. The status bar shows whether the input is valid and basic stats like size, type, and depth.
Click Format to beautify, Minify to compress, Sort keys for alphabetical object keys, or open Compare to check two payloads. Copy or download the result when you are done.
Validation attempts to parse your text with the browser’s JSON parser. If parsing fails, you get an error message — often with an approximate line and column — so you can jump to the problem.
Valid JSON does not mean the data is correct for your application. Schema rules (required fields, types, enums) are a separate layer. Use this tool for syntax first, then apply domain validation in your app.
Beautify (format) adds whitespace and indentation so humans can read structure. Choose 2 spaces, 4 spaces, or tabs to match your project style.
Minify removes unnecessary whitespace. Use it when you need a compact string for APIs, localStorage, or embedding in scripts. Minified and beautified JSON with the same values are structurally identical.
Most JSON failures come from a short list of syntax mistakes. Fix these first before hunting for deeper logic bugs.
Keep production payloads minified when size matters, and keep a beautified copy in version control when humans edit configs. Never commit secrets into JSON that ships to the browser.
When generating JSON-LD for SEO, validate the JSON first, then test the live page with Google’s Rich Results Test.
JSON is usually smaller and easier to map to objects in JavaScript, Python, and many modern APIs. XML is still common in enterprise and document workflows and supports attributes and namespaces JSON does not.
For web APIs, schema.org markup, and front-end configs, JSON is the default. Use this formatter when you need to inspect or clean JSON quickly without installing desktop software.

Yes. Format, validate, minify, sort keys, compare, copy, and download with no account or signup.
No. Formatting and validation run in your browser. Your data stays on your device unless you choose Load URL, which fetches a remote file you specify.
Read the error message and line/column hint. Common fixes: remove trailing commas, switch to double quotes, and quote every object key.
You can beautify with 2 spaces, 4 spaces, or tabs so the output matches your project’s style guide.
Minify when you need a smaller payload for APIs, storage, or embedding. Keep a formatted version for editing and code review.
It recursively sorts object keys alphabetically. Useful for diffing configs or producing stable output when key order does not matter.
Yes. Open Compare mode, paste left and right JSON, and check whether they are structurally equal — including a keys-sorted comparison when only key order differs.
Many APIs block browser requests with CORS. If fetch fails, download the file and use Upload or paste the JSON manually.
Syntax validity is step one. For SEO JSON-LD, also confirm the types and properties match Google’s guidelines and test the live URL.
Yes. Paste your JSON-LD body (or full script contents), format it here, then place it back into your page or use our FAQ / Product schema generators for guided markup.
